The Teacher Librarian's OZTL NET often throws out interesting information and ideas.
In this case it was a link to some research about effectively using ICT in schools. I have put this on the Monivae ICT wiki as well, as I think it is very important that both our committees are on the same page in terms of ICT. It is no good the SLIT committee making recommendations in one direction when the ICT Committee is possibly heading in the opposite one!!!! Don't we need to be all heading the same way??
The research was conducted by Associate Professor Kathryn Moyle of University of Canberra and Dr Susanne Owen of Owen Educational Consultancy during 2008 and published on the AICTEC Website (The Australian Information and Communications Technology in Education Committee (AICTEC) is a national, cross-sectoral committee responsible for providing advice to all Australian Ministers of Education and Training on the economic and effective utilisation of information and communications technologies in Australian education and training.
AICTEC has representation from the schools, vocational education and training and higher education sectors, and includes both public and private education and training sector interests. Through its broad membership, the Committee represents the information and communication technology interests of each State and Territory school and vocational, education and training (VET) system, the non-government school sector, higher education, and the Australian Government. ) The research began with a literature review of Australian and overseas research published since 2002, then collected data about learning with ICT by listening to students' voices in schools, vocational education and training (VET) and pre-service and early career teachers.
Taking part in a focus group with 8 to 10 other students undertaking similar studies. The purpose of the focus group was to discuss participants' views and expectations of learning with technologies.
Completion of the survey and involvement in a focus group were both voluntary and participants' identities were kept anonymous.
The research is interesting, and very relevant to our remit.
the peter hill article is about educational systems (written 6 year ago) but interesting because it gives his overview of education (and he has been appointed to run the national curriculum) - also it has his ideas about what makes a good school and curriculum
